Community Casting Call for Barnbow Canaries


Interested in performing in a unique production at West Yorkshire Playhouse, inspired by Leeds’ history? Join our chorus, develop your performing skills and have fun. West Yorkshire Playhouse is looking to cast 60 women in our community cast for Alice Nutter’s Barnbow Canaries; a new play about the women of the Barnbow factory, a munitions factory in Crossgates during World War I.

We are looking for women and girls of varying ages from 16 upwards, who are confident and interested in gaining some on stage experience. Women from all backgrounds, with or without stage experience, from all over Leeds are encouraged to apply.

Community performers will act in scenes throughout the show, including several movement and dance sequences, and sing hymns and popular folk tunes.

Auditions will be through a fun workshop process lasting 75 mins. To book onto one of the audition dates below, call West Yorkshire Playhouse Box Office on 0113 213 7700.

Wed 27 April, 6pm – 7.30pm: John Smeaton School, Smeaton Approach, LS15 8TA
Thur 28 April, 6pm – 7.30pm: David Young Academy, Bishops Way, LS14 6NU

Rehearsals: various evenings and weekends 16 May – 14 June
