A Day in the Life… of the Musical Director

With opening night next week, the cast and Company of Chitty Chitty Bang Bang have moved into the Quarry Theatre to rehearse on stage. Musical Director Andrew Hilton tells us about a typical day during tech week (short for technical week). This is when for the first time all the elements of the production start to come together during rehearsals including lighting, sound, music, costumes, props and set.

Chitty Day in the life 1

Every day of rehearsals starts with a vocal warm up to make sure the cast are in good vocal health.

Chitty Day in the life 2

My favourite rehearsal – the sitzprobe – when the cast and orchestra come together for the first time to perform the show.

Chitty Day in the life 3

Tech week – very long days in the darkness! Essential to make sure that everyone is safe and the show runs smoothly.
