Calling the next generation of theatre makers…
JOIN OUR YOUNG COMPANY.
Creativity. Curiosity. Collaboration.
We are looking for the most creatively curious and collaborative artists aged 18 – 25 from all backgrounds and disciplines to join the Playhouse’s very first Young Company.
Through a range of interactive workshops, talks and experiences with a leading producing theatre, our Young Company will be given a platform to make a new piece of theatre work that represents them in all their diversity.
So whether you are a writer, a dancer, a beatboxer or a producer, if you are a creative looking to collaborate with your peers, are passionate about using theatre as a platform and would like to be connected to West Yorkshire Playhouse then the Young Company is for you.
Want to find out more? Come along on Wednesday 28 February for our taster & info sessions where you can find out more and get support with filling out your application form. These are drop-in sessions between 1.30-3.30pm or 6.30-8.30pm – head to the Playhouse Box Office and someone will show you where to go.
- What does being in the young company entail?
We are looking to create a dynamic company of creative thinkers who are interested in using theatre as a platform to explore and express their views on the world. The project currently runs from April to October 2018.
The first half of the project will involve a series of workshops designed to get you collaborating as a group. The workshops will be delivered by a range of inspirational artists working in the industry and the Playhouse. We will also take you to see different performances that we can discuss as a group.
In the second half of the project we will support you as a company to begin making theatre together. We hope that, without the pressure of a set performance outcome, you as a company will be able to be genuinely innovative in your approach. You will also be able to decide on what other artists you may need to help you make the work.
If from this you decide to make a piece, we will support you to present that work.
Throughout your time with the Young Company you will be a part of the fabric of the Playhouse, invited to Press Nights and other events.
- How do I apply?
1. Fill in the downloadable application form. You will need to bring this along to your interview.
2. Book your slot for an interview. You will be interviewed on a one-to-one basis but in a shared space with other applicants. The panel will consist of members of Playhouse staff and freelance artists with particular specialisms.
No preparation is required as such but you may want to bring examples of your work or be prepared to talk about what you do.
If you are successful in this stage, you will be invited to a workshop on Saturday 17 March. You must be available for this date as there will not be any additional workshop dates in the process.
If you are unsure, or just want to know more, come along to our taster & info sessions on Wednesday 28th February from 1.30-3.30pm or 6.30-8.30pm – head to the Playhouse Box Office and someone will show you where to go.
- What are you looking for?
We are looking for a diverse group of individual creatives who are keen to collaborate and develop their skills in theatre-making. Some experience in a creative specialism is expected but that does not have to be theatre. A passion and a demonstrable commitment to working in the theatre industry is fundamental. All backgrounds are welcome and we would love the group to be representative of the diversity of Leeds.
Some of the things we will be looking for include:
- A passion for making theatre
- An interest in a career in the theatre industry
- Willingness to collaborate with your peers
- Something to say about society
- A creative specialism, eg: acting, directing, design, breakdancing
- Time to commit to the process
- What are the dates of the project?
Proposed dates (subject to change) are below.
- Friday 13 April 10am – 6pm
- Saturday 14 April 10am – 6pm
- Friday 20 April 10am – 6pm
- Saturday 21 April 10am – 6pm
