The next Asian Network Comedy night will take place at the West Yorkshire Playhouse in Leeds on Sunday 14th May and feature Sindhu Vee, Ahir Shah, Funmbi Omotayo, Ali Official & Isma Almas.
Winner of the 2014 award for Best Show at the Leicester Comedy Festival, Ahir Shah is an exciting young, sharp and intellectual comedian.
In 2016 Ahir performed at the Adelaide Fringe as well as the Montreal Just For Laughs festival in Canada. This year Ahir returned to the Edinburgh Fringe with his hotly anticipated new show Machines. Opening to five and four star reviews, this show has cemented Ahir’s place as one of UK comedy’s finest social commentators.
Born and brought up in India, with degrees from Delhi University, Oxford University, the University of Chicago, half a PHD, a successful career in investment banking, three kids and a bizarrely gigantic Labrador, Sindhu Vee decided it was time to make her parents proud and start a career in comedy.
Ali Shahalom is a YouTuber, TV presenter, event host and public speaker. Specialising in short-form comedy, skits and vlog diaries. He has an audience of over 200,000 followers across his social platforms and his YouTube channel has garnered over 5 Million views, gaining attention from various newspapers, radio and national television.
Funmbi Omotayo’s friendly, instantly likeable style won him the award for Best Newcomer at the Black Entertainment Comedy Awards. He has since gone on to win the prestigious Leicester Square New Act of the Year competition in 2012; shortly after becoming joint winner of Amused Moose’s Laugh Off Competition in the same year.
Funmbi is creating a huge storm on the comedy circuit with tales of living in Hackney, his Nigerian roots and his hilarious day to day observations.
Isma Almas is British multi-culturalism at its best: Bradford-born and a childhood split between Pakistan and Yorkshire. Isma’s comedy is fused by her unique take on life as a British Muslim woman.
Isma won a tonne of comedy plaudits, including being a Finalist in the 2007 Funny Women Awards, and hosted the daily mid-morning show on BBC Radio Leeds prior to taking time out to adopt and raise her son.
