Playhouse Youth Theatre
The Playhouse Youth Theatre runs weekly sessions for young people aged 5-19 years. We make work in response to Playhouse shows, commission new plays for young audiences, and develop theatre making and performance skills.
West Yorkshire Playhouse Youth Theatre aims to open out our building and resources to young people, as well as open up creative opportunities for emerging theatre and performance makers. Through a collaborative process of making theatre, the Playhouse Youth Theatre produces work that responds to the lives of young people and recognises their talent. The Youth Theatre is committed to raising aspirations while developing skills, knowledge and understanding of young people’s experiences of making theatre.
- Playhouse Youth Theatre aims to:
•Devise high-quality performance work which gives young people a voice and recognises their talent and creative potential.
•Create performances of both classic and contemporary theatre which draws on the artistic excellence and professional standards of West Yorkshire Playhouse.
•Engage young people through creative sessions, as well as offering participants a range of creative and cultural experiences that will enrich their lives and the lives of their families.
- How does Playhouse Youth Theatre work?
Across each year, members will take part in a weekly session, work towards varied performance outcomes, explore a wide range of theatrical forms and techniques, and attend a performance at West Yorkshire Playhouse as a group. Each term is charged at £100, payable three times per year (August, December and March).
