"We are talking about criminals, often hardened criminals. They
have a habit of vice and crime. Many criminals seem to have been
born that way. It is in their nature."
Our Country's Good is the true story of a ragbag cast of convicts,
who put on a play under the guidance of an earnest young marine
officer. Asthe barriers between captors and captives break down,
they start to discover each other, both onstage and behind the
scenes...
This Olivier Award-Winning play premiered at the Royal Court
Theatre in 1988 before transferring to the West End and Broadway.
This new production is by the play's original director, Max
Stafford-Clark, following his recent 5 star revival of Top Girls
for Out of Joint.
Please note that the play has an age recommendation of 14 years +
Alongside their revival of OUR COUNTRY'S GOOD, Out of Joint will lead 2 hour workshops on the process of taking the play from page to stage. The practical workshops explore AQA recommended director Max Stafford-Clark's techniques, such as playing cards, status and actioning taken directly from the rehearsal room. The workshops are designed to deepen students' engagement with the text, and offer a firsthand insight into the making of Timberlake Wertenbaker's masterpiece.
