Sleeping Beauty Engagement Exhibition

Newlyn Gallery Exhibition - Sleeping Beauty

As part of West Yorkshire Playhouse's ongoing commitment to finding new and different ways to connect with different communities we have recently started working with postgraduates studying Museum and Art Gallery studies at The University of Leeds. This gives them the opportunity to work in a professional Arts environment and their great work can be shared with the public.

The Newlyn Gallery has been taken over by a team of Postgraduates studying Museum and Gallery Studies at The University of Leeds.

The team of trainee curators have found out all about the engagement activities West Yorkshire Playhouse has been working on with different community groups linking in with the family Christmas show Sleeping Beauty. Estelle, Marcus, Sally and Stephanie have designed and produced an exhibition which beautifully explains the different creative contributions each group has made, from decoration in the foyer, to a big feature of the set on stage.

One of the volunteer curators, Sally Lee, spoke to us about her experience:

"Working on the exhibition project for Sleeping Beauty at West Yorkshire Playhouse has been a wonderful experience.  I have learnt a huge amount about the intricacies of gallery curation and the importance of building strong bonds with community partnership groups."
