Work Experience

Courtyard-2.jpg

At West Yorkshire Playhouse we believe in the great value of work experience and are committed to providing such opportunities to young people in Secondary, Further and Higher Education. We host many students throughout each academic year, opening doors to new ideas, fresh perspectives and a further understanding of the work taking place in a theatre full of activity.

Year 10 and 11 Students

For Health and Safety reasons, backstage or technical theatre placements are only available to over 18s. Placements for High School students in Year 10 or 11 therefore take place within the Arts Development Department.

Placements last 1 week and involve a number of different administration and practical tasks.

Your main tasks while on placement will be to help with the planning, preparation and delivery of Creative Education workshops with Primary aged children and assisting on the Heydays project (an arts activity project for over 55s). Other work during the week may also include assisting with other projects or backstage tours for a school or community group, watching a matinee performance or a visit to our Costume Hire department to volunteer your help.

We are now fully booked with Year 10 & 11 placements until July 2013. If you are interested in work experience for the new academic year 2013/14 please refer to the 'How to Apply' section at the bottom of this page.

College and University Students

As already mentioned, for Health and Safety reasons backstage or technical theatre placements are only available to over 18s. Please contact us with full details of your subject of study and length of placement required and your request will be passed to the relevant department.
