What is First Floor?

First Floor is West Yorkshire Playhouse's venue just for young people, where they can come and take part in creative activities.

ff_girl_mask.jpgIf you are aged 11 to 19 (14 to 25 with a learning disability) then there are a whole range of activities like drama workshops, sculpture, rap, singing, graffiti art and much more on offer.

At First Floor we want to help young people to learn new skills, discover new talents and interests and meet new people. We want to help you find out what you're good at and develop it. We also want young people to be able to learn about the different kinds of jobs within a theatre and find out how to get more experience or training.

During the school day we run programmes for groups of young people, not in full time education, training or employment.

I learned that anything and everything can be an inspiration to write songs. I would love to do it all again.

At the Playhouse

The Playhouse provides one of the country's most comprehensive arts education programmes alongside performances that engage and excite young people.  First Floor, a new space dedicated to working with anyone aged 11 to 19, or 14 to 25 with a learning disability, was opened in January 2009, and its eclectic range of activities and projects continue to attact young people to try something new or develop their skills with different music, drama and art activities on offer in fully accessible, light and airy studios on Quarry Hill.promo_wyp_night.jpg
A number of tickets are available for performances at no cost  as part of the Under26 Scheme, and young people can help spread the word about how great theatre and the arts can be by signing up as a Young Ambassador.
