“Nothing worthwhile is gained without struggle.”
FREDERICK DOUGLASS, 24 MARCH 1893

Born Frederick Augustus Washington Bailey to a slave mother
and a white father he never knew, Frederick Douglass grew up
to become a leader in the abolitionist movement and the first
black citizen to hold high rank in the U.S. government.

This is the story of struggle and determination, showing how
even in the bleakest circumstances, radical change is possible.
To mark the bicentenary of the abolition of slavery we pay
tribute to the people of the abolitionist movement and through
expressive choreography and dynamic theatre remind ourselves
that freedom is the most precious and valuable human right.
