First Floor is West Yorkshire Playhouse’s place where young people between the ages of 11 (at Secondary School) and 19 can take part in creative activites.

Song Writing Surgery
5.15 - 6pm
Come and join this regular session. Whether you want some expert advice or want to write but don’t know where to start, just drop in! |
Friday Night Project
7 - 9pm
Make your way down to St Peter’s Square (opposite the Bus Station) and take part in different music, drama, dance and art activities at First Floor, Yorkshire Dance or Leeds College of Music. Different sessions each week. Come to First Floor to find out what’s happening where.

Livin' Vocally
6.15 - 7pm
It doesn’t matter whether you’re already a singer or have always fancied singing in a group, please come along!

Cost: £1 per session.

| 10 - 13 yrs |
10am - 2.30pm
Play with a different artform each day and explore what it’s like in the city in summer!
Drama (Mon 26): you will have fun making stories and exploring characters, using costumes and simple props.
Art (Tue 27): you will design and build a giant board game using lots of different materials.
Music (Wed 28): you will make your own music, improvising with everyday objects and instruments.
You can attend one or more days.

10.30am - 3pm (finishes 1pm on Sat)
Go out on location in Leeds to discover and record the sights and sounds of the city in summer. Working with a writer and a professional musician, you will then create your very own poetry, monologues and soundscapes all about Leeds.
You need to be able to attend all four days.

| 14 - 25 yrs |
10.30am - 12.30pm
This project is for young people with learning disabilities.
Choose either Music or Art and spend three mornings exploring music making and song or creating fantastic works of art with fabric, texture and paint. You’ll be using your imagination and developing your creative skills. All activities will be inclusive, friendly and fun. You need to be able to attend all three days and must choose either Music or Art when booking your place. If you need one to one support you are welcome to bring a carer with you.

| 11 - 19 yrs |
10.30am - 3pm
This project takes place in All Saints Hall on York Road, and is for young people living in Richmond Hill, Burmantofts, Lincoln Green, Gipton and Harehills.
Work with our Musician in Residence in this two day intensive singing project to create a performance of popular songs. You will have the chance to perform at the Lark in the Park Festival on Saturday 4 September. You need to be able to attend all three days.

Come along to Playhouse Square, where young people from First Floor, together with members of Heydays, the Playhouse’s older people’s project, will perform. The public are invited to join in at this event, which forms part of a weekend of celebrations to launch the Cultural Olympiad in Leeds. Please come along and have some fun! Song sheets will be given out on the day so that you can join in and have a sing.

Call in any time to find out more about what is on offer this autumn and sign up to projects. You can join in the free music or art sessions, have a snack or just have a look around. Everyone welcome!
