We're thrilled that two West Yorkshire Playhouse productions have been nominated for TMA Awards. Actor Tim Pigott-Smith has been selected for the category Best Performance In A Play for his leading role as the tormented KING LEAR in Ian Brown's celebrated production. On accepting the role, Tim said 'I was nineteen when somebody said to me, after a misguided performance in the Bristol University studio - 'You should play Lear one day.' So, I suppose, from that moment, it sits there waiting for you. And you hope that before you are too long in the tooth someone will ask you to go with them up the mountain. I worked very happily with Ian some years ago, and I am gratified and terrified that he has asked me to come to West Yorkshire Playhouse to tackle this astounding play.
Receiving its world premiere at the Playhouse, THE GO-BETWEEN which was co-produced with Derby Live and Royal And Derngate Northampton has been nominated for Best Musical Production. An innovative adaptation of the classic novel by LP Hartley, THE GO-BETWEEN's creative team includes composer Richard Taylor and playwright David Wood, director Roger Haines and musical director/pianist Jonathan Gill. Both productions were performed at the Playhouse in Autumn 2011.
