Shake The Dust

Shake the Dust Yorkshire and Humber Regional Slam - Saturday 23 June

This Saturday West Yorkshire Playhouse hosted the Shake the Dust Yorkshire and Humber Regional Slam in the Courtyard Theatre.

For the last few months 5 teams from Ralph Thoresby High School, The Grammar School Leeds, City of Leeds School Carr Manor High School and First Floor have been working with their own poet Coach and shadow poet coach to create 3 pieces to perform in the competition.

It was an amazing night which saw performances from Livin Vocally and Unbound, high quality poetry and Ralph Thoresby High School winning the competition. They will be heading to London on the 7 July for the final, so Good Luck guys we know you'll do Leeds proud!

First Floors group aka the First Floor writers worked with Paulette Morris (Poet Coach) and Hannah Robinson (Shadow) over 8 weeks to prepare for the slam and their hard work paid off with them being given an award for 'Fearlessness in the face of the establishment!' well done guys you were amazing!

First Floor writers are:

India Gale, Simone Kelly, Emily McGill, Phoebe Mott, Chris Townsley, Jade Gilbertson, Khiya Carey, R'keya Barrett, Mona Lisa Curry  and Harriet Curry.
